Newsletter 27 march – 2 april

Dearest lovely SIBlings,

The sun is out and spring is here! I can just feel the winter blues melt away. With the calendar already nearing the end of March, it’s time to start the hunt for our successors. Can you see yourself as part of Board 77? Then be sure to apply soon as applications are open now.

This Monday we had a much-awaited event… Integration Night! We started with some speciality beers (apple bandit is very special ;p) and a pub quiz at Albertus Magnus, then enjoyed a traditional dinner at Vindicat, and then finally ended the night with a legendary Cantus at Dizkartes! There were helmets, there were waterfalls, and there was beer. A truly fantastic concept. A big thanks to everyone who came by and integrated!

Then on Tuesday, we went to Utrecht to go see our sister SIB! We mingled and got to know a bit more about how they do SIB in Utrecht. If you would like to find out more about the rest of the SIB cities across the Netherlands,  click here to check out SIB-NL’s Website.

Then on Thursday the 23rd we had our GMA. During this GMA, the board presented what it has been up to in the last few months, committees, disputen and PGs gave updates on how they are getting along, and members had the opportunity to give their suggestions/comments about the inner workings of the association, amongst other things.

Onto this upcoming week’s events! On Monday we have a busy schedule prepared, beginning with a lecture called ‘is Israel an Apartheid State?’ by Itai Reuveni. It is sure to be a fantastic lecture, so come on down to Mesacosa at 20:00. For this lecture it is mandatory to sign up in advance, so please click here in order to not miss out. After the lecture on Monday, we will finally reveal and hand out the Lustrum Books! We are also planning on making a time capsule as well to round off the celebrations of 75 years, so bring along any little momentos you may have.

We then also have an exciting event coming up with Madi Jobarteh, a human rights defender from the Gambia on Thursday the 30th. For his work, he has been under intense scrutiny from the Gambian government. During this event, Madi Jobarteh will introduce the human rights situation in The Gambia during a brief talk followed by an interactive Q&A. Afterwards, he will join a friendly discussion while sharing a drink with the participants on the importance of human rights and his personal work. Though the event is free and open to everyone, there is a limited capacity so please sign up through this link. This event will take place on Thursday the 30th of March at the Crown, 20:00.

Before the lecture on Thursday, the board have arranged another board-interest borrel. This will also be taking place at the Crown, starting at 18:00. With applications opening up on Monday the 20th of March, if you are interested in applying for the 77th Board of SIB-Groningen, feel free to ask us any questions/queries you may have! In the meantime, if you have any questions about positions/the application process/anything really, don’t hesitate to reach out to us by email or text (during arbo-uren) and we are more than happy to help!

We also have SIB merch available for sale!

Looking forward to seeing you on Monday

Lots of love

On behalf of Board 76
