Dearest lovely SIBlings,
Today we had a very special Disney-themed Vrijmibo, where we could watch a movie and do a very cool puzzle with allll the princesses. Personally, I’m a big fan of puzzles, and if you are too, click here to get in on the action! Which Disney Princess do you identify most with? Scroll down to see which Disney princess matches most with your Myers-Briggs personality type!
This Monday, we had our yearbook auction and ‘Albert Heijn Bonus Card Lustrum’ themed party. Each committee, Project Group, Dispuut, auctioned off the hottest items and services in their Heijn-iest outfits. Ranging from delightful Millionaire’s shortbread to feet pics, to traditional dance performances in the Forum and even a day with Martijn, the SIB really does have the most wonderful things to offer. We managed to raise an astounding 1627 Euros to go towards production costs of the yearbook, thank you to everyone who came and bid/auctioned and made use of the free beers!
Then on Thursday, the Soccie had its second ball-themed event of the year! Many of our members showed off their intense bowling skills at Kardingerweg while some were confronted with their less than stellar coordination. A big thank you to everyone who came and supported the Soccie. Later that day, we had an Irish Lecture by Stephen Eustace in honour of St. Patricks Day. This lecture was organised in collaboration with HCSA and taught us about Irish culture, and dancing and even included a bit of singing! We then went on a mini pub crawl of a few of the Irish pubs within Groningen.
This upcoming Monday (20th of March) we have another much-awaited event… Integration Night! This event is designed to help you meet people from different student associations in the city and integrate further Dutch student culture. We will start with some speciality beers and a pub quiz at Albertus Magnus, then enjoy dinner at Vindicat, and then finally end the night with a legendary Cantus at Dizkartes! It is sure to be a fantastic night. Unfortunately, tickets have sold out for this event.
Then on Tuesday the 21st, we will be travelling to Utrecht together to go visit our southerly sister SIB! If you are interested in joining us and finding out how they do SIB in Utrecht be sure to click here so that we can make travel plans together! The board will be leaving Groningen at 17:18. We also have SIB merch available for sale! We offer hoodies, sweaters, ties, pins and caps. They are very stylish and suitable for any occasion (especially going to visit other SIBs) so be sure to check them out! If you would like to check out the rest of the SIB cities across the Netherlands, click here to check out SIB-NL’s Website..
Then on Thursday the 23rd we will be finally having our next GMA. During this GMA, the board will present what it has been up to in the last few months, committees, dispute and PGs will give updates on how they are getting along, and members will have the opportunity to give their suggestions/comments about the inner workings of the association, amongst other things. All entities of the SIB are expected to attend, so we hope to see you all there! This GMA will take place at Cafe de Keyzer at 19:47.
We also have an exciting event coming up with Madi Jobarteh, a human rights defender from the Gambia. For his work, he has been under intense scrutiny from the Gambian government. During this event, Madi Jobarteh will introduce the human rights situation in The Gambia during a brief talk followed by an interactive Q&A. Afterwards, he will join a friendly discussion while sharing a drink with the participants on the importance of human rights and his personal work. Though the event is free and open to everyone, there is a limited capacity so please sign up through this link. This event will take place on Thursday the 30th of March at the Crown.
With applications opening up on Monday the 20th of March, if you are interested in applying for the 77th Board of SIB-Groningen, there are many opportunities to help you prepare! We have our 2nd Board interest event coming up and more information will follow soon! In the meantime, if you have any questions about positions/the application process/anything really, don’t hesitate to reach out, we are more than happy to help!
Looking forward to seeing you on Monday
Lots of love
