“Wender: Sheltering women and vulnerable groups in Groningen” by Marcel Petrusma
Monday 24 April 2023, 20:00 - 22:00
Marcel Petrusma is advisor strategy and development at Wender. Wender is an organisation whose mission it is to help young people, elderly, women, men and families who are dealing with issues such as homelessness, addiction, psychological problems, debts and/or domestic violence. They provide shelter, housing assistance and outpatient support all over the North of the Netherlands.
Wender believes that every person deserves a safe, private life. Starting with a secure and comfortable environment. Unfortunately, this is not a given for everyone. For some, keeping life in order is difficult. Wender is there for them. They help people get back on their feet and together, look for solutions. This is how they ensure a positive turn towards a safe, private life.
Marcel will tell us something about Wender’s work, their shelters including their women’s shelter, and the work they do for youth, as well as their different target groups and the prevention of necessary shelter. At this lecture there is also the opportunity to donate money towards the revamping of the courtyard of the women’s shelter in Groningen.
As for security reasons not all people in the shelter are able to go on to the street, this courtyard is for some their only way to be outside. However, the courtyard is quite bare and gets hot very quickly, making it an unbearable place to be in summer. That is why on the 15th of May BOEF organises a raffle. You can buy tickets for €1 each and win amazing prizes. All the money donated will go towards refurbishing of the courtyard!
Lottery tickets can be ordered here.
