Watch Party: Our Man in Teheran
Monday 30 March 2020, 20:00 - 23:00
We’ve been missing SIB nights just as much as you have, so we’re going digital! For Monday, the Activities Committee had organised a lecture by Dr Mohammadbaghar Forough on Iran at the Intersection of Geopolitics and Geoeconomics.
Mohammadbaghar Forough is currently a lecturer of International Relations of Modern Iran at Leiden University. His research focuses on the rise of great new and regional powers, and their implications on security, connectivity and infrastructure in the Middle East. He is also the co-editor of the Clingendael’s research publication website, the Silk Forum.
If you are intersted in Dr Forough’s research, we recommend you check out this short video.
Besides the news on US sanctions, the rising influence of China and the boiling conflicts in the Middle East, the voice of ordinary people in Iran often remains very silent. Because of this, we will watch the documentary “Our man in Teheran”.
The documentary “Our man in Teheran”, is the English equivalent to the Dutch television series “Onze man in Teheran”. Dutch New York Times correspondent Thomas Erdbrink takes us on a journey through the country he has lived and worked in for over a decade. He engages in conversation with different Iranians on their view on life, the state and the future.
We will watch the documentary via zoom. A link and description on how to join will be posted here half an hour before the screening starts. Afterwards, there will be room for discussion and drinks. BYOB of course.
