Visible. A History and Discussion of the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement by Chelsea Rodriguez
Monday 17 January 2022, 20:00 - 21:30
The history of the LGBTQ+ Rights movement in the USA is often told as a simple (and completed) narrative, but there is so much more to this ongoing movement. This interactive lecture aims to challenge the dominant narratives which have suppressed the efforts and achievements of LGBTQ+ people, and hopes to correct misconceptions and highlight problems with popular ideas about the fight for rights and recognition by the Queer community, both before and after Stonewall. In viewing this complex history through a new (rainbow) light, we will learn together how hard-won protections were earned, mainstream-attitudes were changed, and what the past can teach us about present and future struggles for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans* rights.
There’s a limited capacity for this event, so it’ll be based on first come, first served again, and you need to be able to show a valid QR code and ID.
