Trip to the Freemasons
25 April at 18:45 - 21:30
On Thursday the 25th of April we will visit the Freemasonry here in Groningen. It is one of the oldest and largest non-religious, non-political fraternal and charitable organizations. Important concepts within the freemasonry are the search for the truth, fraternity and tolerance. The freemasonry is seen as mysterious and has the reputation of having closed doors. They describe themselves as a “beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols,” the meaning of these symbols is taught by rituals. The basic, local organizational unit of the freemasonry is a lodge. We will visit the lodge L’Union Provenciale, the oldest freemason lodge in the North of the Netherlands that was founded in 1772.
