The Ferguson Riots; Deeply rooted racism?
On the 9th of March Mark Thompson and Zihni Özdil will speak about the historical background of racism in the United States and facts leading up to the Ferguson riots. We’ve all heard about these riots and how they’ve started with the case of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, who was shot and killed on the 9th of August, by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis. The shooting prompted protests that roiled the area for weeks. On the 24th of November, the St. Louis County prosecutor announced that a grand jury decided not to indict Mr. Wilson. The announcement set off another wave of protests which are now afflicting the United States.
