International Negotiations are the backbone if diplomacy in the 21st century. Diplomats around the world are busy with negotiating important and controversial treaties such as CETA, TTIP and TPP. In this lecture Paul Meerts, one of the Netherlands most leading experts in the field of international negotiations and director at Clingendael will talk about the important role of negotiations as an alternative for war. He will be joined by experienced diplomat Benedicte Frankinet. Ms. Frankinet has served as representative at the United Nations in New York on behalf of Belgium. She has much experience as a diplomat and will be able to shine a light on the practice of diplomacy in the 21th century.
Paul Meerts has researched this topic for many years and has given training to diplomats, military officers and civil servants in over 95 countries. There will also be an interactive element in this lecture where you will get the task to negotiate yourself.
Hope to see you there!
