Susan George: Changing our Future; beyond the global crisis

30-08-2017 at 16:00 - 18:00

Susan George is a Franco-American social scientist and political activist who has written a large amount of books and articles about neoliberal globalisation, ideology, equality and social justice. Her widely translated oeuvre includes works such as A fate worse than debt (1988), Whose crisis, whose future? (2010) and Shadows sovereigns: How global corporations are seizing power (2015). She is also the President of the Board of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam: a community of scholars who are actively participating in civil society and trying to make the world a better place. In this lecture, George will talk about the future today’s students can expect. How are climate change, recent waves of refugees and rising inequalities (both national and global) connected to each other? And what can we do if we want to make the world a better place to live? With her critical mindset, George will analyse these developments and illuminate the possibility for change.
