“Stories we live, love and lie by” By Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Korthals Altes

13-02-2017 at 20:00 - 21:30

People are storytellers. Throughout human history people have shared stories, using them to make sense of their experience and to convey or contest world views and values. Narratives play a prominent role across the whole range of our social and individual lives, from bed-time stories and literary fiction to politician’s stories, such as Donald Trump’s, who sees himself as a hero, the “Businessman who will make America Great Again”.
During this lecture Prof. Liesbeth Korthals Altes will talk about the central role stories play in the way we understand and deal with life and shape our world, our values, and our collective or individual sense of identity. Liesbeth Korthals Altes is professor of General Literature at the University of Groningen and has written many articles and books on narrative and its uses.
