Lecture on “What does it take to be an influencer” by Marthe Möller

Monday 13 January, 20:00 - 22:00

When scrolling through posts on social media, we are constantly exposed to other people’s comments. To what extent do the remarks of others influence how we perceive online content? In this lecture Dr. Marthe Möller will take you through her research on online social influence in the context of different topics, such as politics and entertainment. By the end, you’ll know all about the impact that other people’s social media engagement has on you – but also all about the role that you play in this process!

Dr. Marthe Möller is an Assistant Professor of Entertainment Communication at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. In her work, Marthe studies how social media usage can foster connection. On the one hand, she investigates the boundary conditions and psychological mechanisms explaining the development of connectedness among social media users. On the other hand, Marthe investigates how computational methods and machine learning in particular can be used to study this topic. She is an affiliate member of the UvA Data Science Centre and a co-director of the Digital Communication Methods Lab.
