Macro-trends in Humanitarian Assistance by Eero Janson
Monday 16 October 2023, 20:00 - 22:00
Macro-trends in Humanitarian Assistance – largest trends in the humanitarian sector under the scope.
Just a year ago the Estonian Refugee Council was the first, and is still one of the biggest multi-purpose cash assistance offerers in Ukraine. Eero Janson is the director of the Estonian Refugee Council with elaborate experience managing and designing dozens of humanitarian interventions across the world, for example in Ukraine, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Georgia, and Kenya, as well as refugee assistance programmes implemented in Estonia. He has experience in the internal workings of a manifold of International Organisations aimed at giving humanitarian help, such as the Board of European Council of Refugees and Exiles, and in the consultancy of the United Nations Refugee Agency.
For this lecture, he is here to talk about cash-based assistance – how states are choosing to give humanitarian aid in a cash-based system, rather than object-based; digitalization, and data-driven world – how big data and digital transformation are changing the humanitarian sector; and localization – how it is becoming increasingly important to support the humanitarians and field workers in the crisis points, which unfortunately often does not come without significant loss.
Eero Janson will share his experience to educate and give an insight into the workings of one of the most active refugee councils in place.
