Palestine: a people too much, a land too little?

24-04-2017 at 20:00 - 21:30

Few areas of the world have been as contested as the one shared by Israel and Palestine. By promising the area to both Arabs and Jews, Britain sowed the seeds of what can be described as the most intractable conflict of our time. With no end in sight, and illegal construction being more a matter of fact than fiction it seems as if there is very little willingness to even come closer to a solution. The plight of the Palestinians has been overlooked for far too long according to Dries van Agt, which is why he wants to call attention to this topic and the injustice which is done to the Palestinian people. According to Dries van Agt we will only find a durable peace in negotiations based on International Law. In this lecture Dries van Agt will go into the horrible situation many Palestinians are in, the injustice they face and the apparent inaction of certain western countries in trying to right this wrong.

Few people can tell more passionately about this topic than the speaker SIB-Groningen has invited. Dries van Agt was minister-president from 1977-1982. He has been active since the nineties for the rights of Palestinians and has also published a book on this topic “Een Schreeuw om Recht”

This lecture will take place in the Aula of the Academiegebouw, Broerstraat 5 and is open and free for everyone!
