A New Hope: A General Introduction to Ecocide and its International Progress by Stop Ecocide International
Monday 11 November, 20:00 - 22:00
In this lecture, Stop Ecocide International explains the emerging concept of “ecocide”—the widespread destruction of the environment—as an international crime and its journey from a theoretical concept to a global legal movement. “Ecocide” captures large-scale environmental damage that endangers ecosystems and human communities, whether caused by corporate practices, deforestation, pollution, or other human actions.
The lecture will focus on the impact of ecocide legislation on corporate, governmental, and societal levels and consider the potential influence of ecocide laws in providing a more restorative approach to protecting the planet for future generations. It is therefore ideal for students of law, environmental studies, international relations, or anyone interested in the intersection of justice and environmental sustainability.
