‘Human Rights and Europe’ by Bas van Bockel
17 June at 20:00 - 22:00
On Wednesday, September 12 2018, the European Parliament approved a report about the state of human rights By approving this report the Parliament also gave the green light to start an Article 7 procedure.
But what is Article 7? Are there any other procedures like it to protect citizens rights against their governments? Should the EU even use these procedures? And what does the future of the EU look like now that we are actually using them?
To talk to us about these questions and more, we will be joined by Bas van Bockel. He is a senior lecturer of EU law at the Europe Institute, the University of Utrecht, and a deputy judge at the court of Amsterdam. Formerly guest professor EU law at the Universita Ca’ Foscari (Venice, Italy), lecturer EU law and head of the MA EU Studies University Leiden, and Jean Monnet Fellow at the Academy of Global Governance at the European University Institute in Florence.
This event is free and open for everyone.
