Sjoerd-Jeroen Moenandar: Language and Identity
Monday 25 May, 20:00 - 22:00
Language shapes the way we think. In several languages we have words that are not translatable into other languages, we pay attention to different details and shape our societies in different ways.
How does this work? How does language influence what matters to us? What does being confronted with languages that are not our own do to our perception of ourselves?
Dr Sjoerd-Jeroen Moenandar is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen. His research specialises in Literature and Society, as well as the Philosophy of Art. He currently teaches the programme Minorities and Multilingualism and has extensive experience lecturing at multiple universities in the Netherlands and beyond.
The lecture is open and free for everybody. It will take place via zoom, you can join from 19:45 onwards via this link.
The lecture will also be livestreamed on facebook, as well as SIB-Groningen’s youtube channel.
