At the information market you can get to know almost all student organizations that the city of Groningen has to offer. Here you can ask your questions about the SIB and get more information about our association.

To celebrate the first day of the KEI-week, the SIB will start off with a Beach themed party as we are still enjoying the warm and sunny weather. Come by in your favourite beach outfit! We will close our doors around 2:00, but the party will still continue until late in the night.

KEI Conference, 14:00-17:00, Martiniplaza
SIB is known for organising weekly lectures every Monday night. At the KEI Conference we will also organise two lectures.

Lecture 1
14:15- 14:45 Kulani Abendroth-Dias “How Artificial Intelligence changes the European Union”
Undeniably, artificial intelligence has the potential to enormously impact society as it changes the information that we receive, the choices that we make, and the ways in which we function. In the coming years, AI will play an even greater role in the way that governments and public institutions operate, and the way in which citizens interact and participate in the democratic process. While AI clearly can be truly beneficial (it helps with identifying the best candidates for a job, assisting doctors to establish medical diagnoses or supporting lawyers before the courts), it also entails risks of mass surveillance, spreading of misinformation or weapons automatization. How can the European Union approach AI including its human and ethical implications? The speaker for this lecture, Kulani Abendroth-Dias, who is a Strategic Analyst with the Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) in Paris, France, will address this issue as well as the challenges of the European Union in the Digital Age.

Lecture 2
15:45-16:15  Chelly Maes The Influence of Pornography on Youth
Pornography websites get more visitors than Amazon, Netflix, and Twitter combined. It could be asked why this statistic is necessary to point out. Well, consider these statistics: nearly one in five women have been assaulted, one in four women have been beaten by an intimate partner, and erectile dysfunction rates have gotten up in the last decade among younger men in the US. Viewing women as sex objects, shaping men’s sexual expectations of women, acceptance of sexual aggression toward women to name just a few issues of the pornography industry. The viewing of pornography, especially violent pornography, desensitizes people to realistic sexual experiences and physical conditions people to find violent, oftentimes non-consensual sex to be erotic. How can this problem be solved? To answer this question, we invited Chelly Maes, a doctoral researcher from the School for Mass Communication Research in Leuven.

At the KEI-parade, the city streets are turned upside down! During this parade, we will march through the city center with other student organizations. Come and have a look, because you don’t want to miss this!

White Lies Party, 22:00-04:00, Mesacosa (Zwanestraat 35)
After the KEI parade, the SIB will have a White Lies (also known as Emotional Damage) Party! You’ve probably been there at some point in your life: you don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings so you tell a lie. What is your most told ‘white lie’? At the entrance, you will get a board on which you will write this lie. Inside you can party and meet other KEI participants and SIB members based on their white lies. Isn’t that a great conversation starter? 😉At 2AM we will close our doors, but the party will still continue after this!

During the pub crawl of KEI you can come to the SIB for a blacklight party! Dance the night away to our favourite hits with some glow in the dark face and body paint. Tip: Wear white clothes! At 2AM, we will close our doors but the party will still continue after this.

Open Air Festival, 14:00-19:00, Kardingeplas
Come and relax on the fourth day of the KEI-week! A wide range of artists and acts will be featured at this festival and the sustainable character of the 54th KEI-week will be highlighted. Enjoy the weather, and come by at our stand. Here you can get your very own henna tattoo.

Eat & Greet, 18:00-22:00, Het Pakhuis (Peperstraat 8-2)
Join us at the Eat and Greet, and enjoy a nice dinner with members from SIB, get to know them and ask your questions! The Eat and Greet will be held at an external location. This means that our chill area at Mesacosa will be closed.

The Rave Cave, 22:00-04:00, Mesacosa (Zwanestraat 35)
Come join us on Thursday night for The Rave Cave! After some years of corona it is time to come together and party. Our location will be decorated to make it look extra cosy. For this themed party you can dress up as anything that lives in a cage, so be creative. Besides our normal popular hits, we will of course also play some techno music. At 2AM we will close our doors, but the party will still continue after this!
