COLLECTIVE RESILIENCE: Will it be the Future of Humanitarianism?

Thursday 19 August 2021, 20:00 - 21:30

Come join us for a zoom lecture by Dr. Valerie Nkamgang Bemo, Deputy Director of Global Development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which will take place in connection with KEI Week.
With globalisation, States cannot act by and for themselves anymore as everything is connected. This idea is being reinforced by different issues in the world. A good example of this is the Covid-19 pandemic. A virus that started in a province of China had severe impacts for the rest of the world. However, State’s individualism seems to grow at the expense of the international community.
What did we learn from the pandemic and what are the relations between the individual states and the international community? Do we want to keep this dynamic in the future, or should there be change?
Global problems ask for global solutions but what global solutions do we want, or can we have in an individualised world?

This lecture, organised by the KEI Committee will take place on Zoom, and is followed by a Q&A session.
