November 12 at 20:00 - 22:00
On Wednesday 21 November, local elections will be held in Groningen. Thanks to the European Union, these elections will not only be open to Dutch citizens but to every citizen of the EU who is registered at the municipality, and every person from outside the EU who has lived here for over 5 years. With international students increasing in number every year, thus becoming a more important electorate every year, more and more actors such as the municipality, political parties, and other organisations are trying to activate and inform international students of their rights to vote. With the goals of the SIB-Groningen to help integration of internationals and inform students of politics at all levels, and the goals of GPJK to activate youths politically, we will be organising an English debate on the local elections.
On Monday the 12th of November this a debate on the local elections will take place in the City Hall of Groningen. Local Groninger politicians from 7 different parties will discuss multiple topics, such as students, sustainability, and more through the use of 7 statements. The event will be opened by the Mayor, Peter den Oudsten, and moderated by Chief Groningen at the Dagblad van het Noorden newspaper, Esther van der Meer.
The event will take place at the Raadszaal of the City Hall of Groningen. The debate will start at 20:00 and will last till 22:00 and is free and open to everybody. The event is organised by SIB-Groningen, the largest international student association of Groningen, and by Groninger Politiek Jongeren Kontakt, GPJK.
