Crash Course Local Politics

01-11-2018 at 20:00 - 21:30

On 21 November, voters in Groningen will be able to elect their new city council. Part of the international student community can also vote in this election, but unfortunately, this rarely happens. Only a few international students are aware of Groninger municipality politics, the inner workings of the political system, and the choices one can make in it.

Therefore, we feel it is important to inform students, expats, and other international Groningers about local politics, and to do our best to involve them in discussions about the future of our city. Because of this, City Central and SIB-Groningen will organise an English Crash Course about Groningse local politics, on Thursday 1 November. This evening will begin with a short, accessible lecture about the different levels of Dutch politics. How is the system put together? Who decides what? What topics are trending? After that, we will have an interview with an experienced expert in Groninger politics, who will talk about their time in local politics. There will also be time for questions from the audience. The crash course will begin at 20:00 and will take around one and half hour, with drinks afterward.
