Climate Change in the Pacific

Thursday 11 June 2020, 20:00 - 22:00

As a follow-up to the documentary night on April 20, Dispuut Eo Sensu is organising a lecture on Climate Change in the Pacific on this Thursday.

The Pacific Islands are one of the places on earth most affected by climate change. Scientists predict that some islands will probably have disappeared under water by the end of the century. Furthermore, the increase of natural catastrophes is a challenge these islands have to tackle.

Dr Camilla Borrevik

How do the Pacific Islands deal with the consequences caused by climate change? Which challenges, but also opportunities are there?

To answer these questions and more, we will be joined by Dr Camilla Borrevik. Camilla is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Social Anthropology Department at the University of Bergen, and a member of the Bergen Pacific Studies Research Group. Her own research interests concern climate change, diplomacy, policy, knowledges and Pacific regionalism, and how countries in the Pacific region adapt to the challenges posed to them. She has been conducting extensive fieldwork in Fiji.

The lecture is open and free for everyone. The event will take place via zoom, you can join from 19:45 onwards via this link. The lecture will also be livestreamed on facebook, as well as SIB-Groningen’s youtube channel.
