Andreas Blühm: The place of art in society

15 October at 20:00 - 22:00

Art’s place in society has always been a point of contestions in societies. Like the question: ‘what is art?’, there never seems to be consensus about the power and position art should have in out society. No matter the value judgment one makes about this, what is undeniable is power art has swayed throughout history: from the expression of religious worship, political dissidence, or emotional relief, art has always played a role in influencing the individual, and through that, society as a whole. From Bernini to Picasso, or Rembrant to Warhol, each have captured their time and made their own imprint on it.

On monday 15 octobre, we will host a lecture by Andreas Blühm, the director of the Groninger Museum. He will talk to us about exactly these subjects, what role art has played in society historically and what role it should play now. How musea can contribute to stimulating people to visit more art and to become more interested in art.

This lecture is free and open to all.
